Relationship
Therapy
Therapy that helps you show up better — for others and yourself.
Relationships are complicated — and not just the romantic kind.
Maybe you keep shrinking around certain people. Maybe your boundaries feel blurry with family. Maybe you’re tired of playing peacekeeper, fixer, or the one who always lets things slide. Whatever’s coming up, you don’t have to sort through it alone.
At Avena, we help you look at the patterns — the people-pleasing, the tension, the distance, the guilt — and start untangling what’s yours to carry and what’s not. We explore the relationships that shape your life: friendships, family, work dynamics, and everything in between.
This isn’t about becoming “better” at relationships in some textbook sense. It’s about getting clearer on how you show up, what you truly need, and how to stay grounded in yourself — even when things get messy.
Together, we’ll help you build relationships that feel more honest, more balanced, and more aligned with the version of you you’re becoming.
Here's what we'll work on in relationship therapy:
Naming the roles you’ve been stuck in — and choosing new ways to show up
Setting boundaries that feel firm, not harsh — and sticking to them without the guilt spiral
Unpacking long-held dynamics with family, friends, or colleagues that leave you drained
Learning how to advocate for your needs without shutting down or blowing up
Navigating relationship changes with more clarity and less fear of conflict or rejection
Rebuilding trust in yourself after years of people-pleasing, over-giving, or walking on eggshells
Real People. Real Expertise. Real Change.
At Avena Psychological Services, we offer holistic, individualized therapy designed to help you understand yourself more deeply and create meaningful, lasting change. Our licensed psychologists tailor each session to your specific concerns and goals, drawing from your full life experience—including your childhood, culture, relationships, physical health, and personality. Whether you’re struggling with depression, relationship challenges, or feeling stuck in patterns that no longer serve you, therapy can help you break your issues down into manageable pieces and begin moving forward. Left unaddressed, mental health concerns can impact every area of life—from work and school to physical health and relationships. But with the right support, you can shift your mindset, make empowered choices, and experience real transformation.

How Do I Verify My Out of Network Benefits?
We make it simple to get the care you deserve — whether we’re in-network with your insurance or not.
If you don’t see your insurance provider listed, you can still work with us through your out-of-network benefits.
Here’s how it works:
-
In-Network Benefits mean we have a direct relationship with your insurance company, and your coverage typically applies automatically.
-
Out-of-Network Benefits mean you can still receive therapy with us — you may just pay upfront and get reimbursed by your insurance provider later.
If you have out-of-network coverage, we’ll submit claims on your behalf to make the reimbursement process as easy as possible. Any reimbursements will go directly to you.
Not sure if you have out-of-network benefits?
Simply call the customer service number on your insurance card and ask about your mental health coverage for out-of-network providers. Our team is also happy to help guide you through the next steps if you need support.
Prefer to Self-Pay?
We offer flexible options, including reduced rates. Reach out — we’ll find the right fit together.
What’s the Difference Between In-Network and Out-of-Network Benefits?
When you use in-network benefits, we have a direct agreement with your insurance company. You’ll typically pay less out-of-pocket, and billing is handled for you. However, you’re limited to therapists within your plan’s network, and not all services may be fully covered.
When you use out-of-network benefits, you have more flexibility to work with therapists outside your insurance network — like us. You’ll usually pay upfront, but you may be eligible for reimbursement. We submit claims on your behalf to make the process easier.
If you’re unsure about your out-of-network coverage, check with your insurance provider or reach out to us — we’re happy to guide you through it.
